The air conditioner filter is a crucial component in the air conditioning system. It effectively blocks dust, bacteria, and other pollutants from the air while also protecting the internal components of the air conditioner from damage. However, over time, dust and dirt accumulate on the filter, which not only reduces its filtration efficiency but may also affect the normal operation of the air conditioner. Therefore, it is especially important to clean the air conditioner filter regularly. Below, we will explain in detail how to open the air conditioner and clean the filter.

1. Preparation

Before cleaning the filter, first turn off the air conditioner and unplug it to ensure safety. Then, prepare cleaning tools such as a soft brush, a vacuum brush, a cleaning agent (which can be laundry detergent, hand soap, dishwashing liquid, or a dedicated air conditioner cleaning agent), a basin, and clean water.

2. Open the Air Conditioner Panel

The method for opening the panel may vary slightly depending on the model of the air conditioner, but there is usually an arrow direction indicator. Follow the arrow, gently lift one corner of the air conditioner panel, and then carefully open it completely. During this process, be mindful of the force to avoid damaging or deforming the panel.

3. Remove the Filter

Observe the position and installation method of the filter, which is typically secured by several slots. Gently push the filter upward to detach the lower part from the slots, then carefully pull the filter down to remove it. Again, pay attention to the force to avoid deforming or damaging the filter.

4. Clean the Filter

Place the filter in the basin and rinse it several times with clean water to remove surface dust. If there is a lot of dust, use a soft brush to gently scrub it. For stubborn stains or grease, add a small amount of cleaning agent to the water and use a soft cloth to wipe the filter’s surface with the mixture, then rinse with clean water. After cleaning, place the filter in a cool, ventilated area to air dry naturally, avoiding direct sunlight or high-temperature heating.

5. Reinstall the Filter

Once dry, reverse the disassembly steps to reinstall the filter in its original position. Ensure that the filter is fully inserted into the slots and does not arch or fall out. After installation, close the air conditioner panel, plug the power cord back in, and wait a few minutes before turning the unit on.

By following these steps, you can easily clean your air conditioner’s filter. Regularly cleaning the filter not only helps maintain clean indoor air but also extends the lifespan of the air conditioner.
